Now 90 years old, Phyllis still enjoys doing her bit, having held 3-4 of these events, each time supporting a charity. Karen says "Mum's passion for this event is only matched by her love she has for her grandchildren - Georgia , Ellie and Callan." This year's show was held in September and supported by approximately 100 people. It was an afternoon affair, with high tea provided for the entry price of $10. Phyllis sources the clothes from op shops and some vintage clothes that she has held onto. She is very good at pulling together her models- usually friends who cant say no, some of Georgia & Callan's support workers and anyone else who puts up their hand. Prizes for raffles are sourced through some local businesses and generous donations. This years show raised approximately $2400 but most importantly it raises awareness of Batten disease and the feedback has always been very positive. Karen says "It would not be the success it is, without our volunteers and Mum's enthusiasm." Karen's parents have always been so supportive of their family and have assisted them in many ways over the years. This is a testament to how it takes a village of people to support families affected by Batten disease and the difference grass roots fundraising can make. BDSRA Australia would like to thank Phyllis for her efforts and the team sends their love and best wishes to all the family. Some photos below of the event.
