FTAW2024

10 February 2024

Feeding Tube Awareness Week    #FTAW2024 ? Australasia’s Feeding Tube Awareness Week, which will be celebrated nationally, 4-10 February 2024. We want to increase awareness and understanding around feeding tubes both for our families and in the community. Feeding tubes will often become an option at some stage, if or when those affected by Batten disease battle swallowing or feeding challenges, or sometimes earlier as a proactive and preemptive step. Although not all families will choose to have a feeding tube for their affected child/loved one, many families opt for this medical device to circumvent feeding and swallowing difficulties to provide fluids, nutrition and/or medication. We want shine a light on this topic, encourage discussions and information sharing to address any stigma, fear, and misinformation. It's important to highlight both the benefits of opting for this intervention for our loved ones as well as the day-to-day impact of tube feeding on individuals, carers and families.   Do you have questions about feeding tubes? Have you ever wondered if this is the right option for your child/loved one? Is this something that a family member or friend has and are interested in finding out more about it?
