Running might appear like a solo sport, but not so for our stars. For these passionate fundraisers, it’s all about community. Participants from different states are joining fun runs and marathons to support BDSRA Australia, showing that every step forward brings us closer to greater awareness and support for families living with Batten disease. We are recognising the efforts of those who participated in the Cairns Marathon and Sydney's City2Surf in July and August 2025.
Nicole and family ran under 'Wurzels Turtles' for the 2km Family Fun Run at the Cairns Marathon on Sunday, 13th July. Running in loving memory of beautiful Mackenzie-Rose. Of note, young Bonnie took 4 minutes off her time from last year and is now training for the 5k, keen to be back for 2026. A wonderful first-time effort, raising $373! "I have included some of the running photos 9436 - Hans, 9404 me, 9437 Bonnie and 9438 Claire. We didn't get a very good family photo at the end unfortunately but our group shot kinda sums up Bonnie well so I like it." - Nicole

Alex Mickler ran in the City2Surf on Sunday 10th August. The threatening weather held off for the most part, just long enough for his run. This was his 3rd time running City2Surf and to add to his personal challenge this year, he registered for the red start group (under 70 minutes). His aim was for a finish time of 55 minutes, and he surpassed this by a whole minute! What an amazing effort in his personal goal - and as a passionate advocate for BDSRA Australia too, his fundraising effort saw $500.00 raised! Well done Alex!

Eliza Dodd has registered to run in the 2025 NIKE MELBOURNE MARATHON FESTIVAL to be held on Sunday, 12th October 2025. She shares in her profile that she's running in honour of 5 Year Old Isla Hunter who is battling CLN1. Let's get behind Eliza! Sponsor Eliza here. If you want to run for Batten disease too, please register to your chosen event using our BDSRA Australia Grassrootz group page. Let us know, we can help you fundraise!
