A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday October 12th for the incredible Australian Doctor's Orchestra Concert - New World at Chatswood Concourse.
What an afternoon! The music, the energy, and the generosity of the Australian Doctors Orchestra and Batten community. The talented ADO musicians came together to create something truly special that featured world renowned Conductor Nicholas Milton and internationally celebrated soloist Simon Tedeschi. Thank you to the ADO committee made up of Carlo Krikowa, Bobbie Riddle, Nikki Hopkins, Amber Rundle and Julia Mickler and all the medical professionals who came from all over Australia to perform for us.
This concert wasn’t just about powerful performances, it was about purpose. It gave us the chance to raise awareness, connect with the medical community and broader public, and share our mission to support those affected by Batten disease.
The support from ADO and the Batten community was incredible and over $35,000 was raised from this event which will directly benefit BDSRA Australia, helping us to continue our vital work in supporting families affected by Batten disease and funding critical research.
A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers Kathy Shipp, Vanessa Anderson, Fiona Hallum, Alana Gayco, Elizabeth Sanson, Susan Stilwell, Kai Riddle, Alex Mickler, Ben Mickler, Ella Kendall, Sophie Panko and Lexy Panko-Jones as well as our fabulous committee members who helped on the day and during rehearsals—baking, setting up, and supporting behind the scenes.
With vision loss being a key symptom of Batten disease, we wanted to ensure everyone could share in the joy of music. We thank NextSense, a formidable not-for-profit providing hearing and vision services across Australia, including education, cochlear implants, allied health, therapy, research, and clinical care, who produced Braille Program inserts in-kind.
